Waldorf Senior Honored For Achievement in Theater and Academics

img_1759-2On Thursday September 8th, 2016 in a ceremony held at Half Hollow Hills High School East, Senior Gabrielle Martin was awarded the Award of Merit in the Discipline of Theater by the Long Island Arts Alliance (LIAA). One of the Alliance’s Scholar Artists Awards, the Award of Merit is given to Long Island high school seniors who represent the highest level of artistic excellence in addition to superior academic achievement. Martin was one of only 4 students to receive the award.

“Gabi is a role model for the other students, demonstrating the importance of hard work and discipline in both the arts and academics,” said the School’s Music Teacher, Andrew Fallu. “She is a dedicated student artist and I can think of no one more deserving of this award.”

At Waldorf, Martin has repeatedly proven herself as both an accomplished performer and natural leader. Many might remember her captivating performance as Juliet during the 10th grade play in the spring of 2015, or her turns as Sally and Audrey in the High School productions of You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown and Little Shop of Horrors respectively. In the classroom, Martin is a gifted student, always attentive and diligent in her school work. She also serves as the President of the Waldorf School of Garden City Chapter of the Tri-M Music Honor Society, displaying her organizational skills and natural leadership.

“I feel incredibly honored to be presented with this award,” said Martin “Thank you to Mr. Fallu and Dr. Stuckenbruck for nominating me, and for all the wonderful support they have given me to pursue my passions. I am grateful for all they have done.”
