Waldorf Student Named Finalist in 2015 National Merit Scholarship Program

The Waldorf School of Garden City is proud to announce that high school senior Jonathan Gill has been named a Finalist in the 2015 National Merit Scholarship Program.

“We are very proud of Jonathan’s exceptional academic achievements,” said High School Chairman Roland Rothenbucher. “Jonathan is an independent thinker who has an unquenchable thirst for learning in general and physics in particular. With unswerving devotion to his studies at Waldorf and to his outside-of-school pursuits, Jonathan has been a model of engaged learning.”

A senior at the Waldorf School of Garden City, Jonathan has attended the private, independent school since nursery. He is a resident of West Hempstead and spends his free time fencing, where he is nationally ranked at the Division I level in Foil. In addition to tutoring younger students at the Waldorf School, Jonathan spent much of last year at neighboring Adelphi University where he engaged in optics research under the supervision of Professor Sean Bentley. He is also enrolled in the prestigious Simons Research Fellowship Program at Stony Brook University, where he worked in the Laser Teaching Center with Dr. John Noe and Professor Harold Metcalf.

The Waldorf School of Garden City is a college preparatory day school teaching early childhood through grade 12. Students in the sophomore and junior classes take the Preliminary Scholastic Achievement Test (PSAT) which is the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT) in school during the month of October.
