Waldorf Watch: High School Students Learn How to Advocate!

The Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL) held its annual Spring Lobby week on March 18-21 in Washington DC. Junior Fiona Somers and Sophomore Simon Davis (pictured left) were among the 400 high school and college students to attend.

Attendees learned more about how laws are made and gained skills that would enable them to lobby Congress about issues they are passionate about. Fiona and Simon went to Capitol Hill and met with representatives from the offices of New York legislators, Senator Schumer, Senator Gillibrand and Representative Kathleen Rice to discuss the healthcare bill. They were also able attend a live session of the House of Representatives as they debated the proposed ACA repeal.

The Friends Committee on National Legislation is a government lobby group that promotes peace, justice, opportunity, and environmental stewardship. Congratulations to Fiona and Simon! We are proud of the initiative you have taken to learn about how to positively impact legislation in our country.
