Waldorf Watch: Junior Ariella Kissin Wins 3rd Prize in New York Concert Festival International Competition

Congratulations to Ariella Kissin for being the 3rd Prize Winner of the New York Concert Festival International Competition. Arielle was chosen after submitting a recording of herself playing Frédéric Chopin’s Impromptu Fantasie on Piano. She will perform the piece again as part of the 2nd & 3rd Prize Winners’ Recital at the Engelman Recital Hall at Baruch Performing Arts Center on Sunday, April 23rd.

Ariella has been playing the piano for approximately 10 years, having started when she was around 6. She works very hard with her private teacher and always pushes herself to do her best. Before submitting her performance to the competition, Ariella practiced 1-2 hours every day for months until she had mastered the piece. Despite all the work that went into it, Ariella said she loved every minute of it as playing the piano is one of her favorite things to do. While she was very proud of herself for this accomplishment, she also expressed a deep gratitude to her teacher, Natasha Tsalyur, for working so hard with her and helping her along the way.

“She’s an exceptional teacher who always pushes me to do better. Without her I’m not sure I would be as good as I am on the piano.”

In addition to receiving 3rd place, Ariella has also been chosen by the New York Concert festival to participate in their International Summer Tour 2017 in St Petersburg, Russia from July 1 – July 8, 2017.

Ariella has been a student at the Waldorf School of Garden City since 2003. We would like to congratulate her on this extraordinary accomplishment!
