Waldorf Watch: Students Earn Citations at Adelphi Poetry Conference

Today, eleven High School Students joined students from across Long Island for Adelphi University’s Annual Poetry Day conference. The event, which included poetry contests and open mic poetry slams, was highlighted by a keynote presentation by Award winning poet Patricia Spears Jones.

The day culminated in a awards ceremony where junior, Jovawn McNeil received a citation for his poem, An Ode to Trayvon, and freshman, Jadyn Mardy was recognized for her poem, Dagnabit! You can read both poems here.

Waldorf’s high school English teacher and Creative Writing Club advisor, Alexios Kritas, said, “I am incredibly proud of our students. They stepped up and presented their poetry with honesty and conviction. Their hard work payed off with this terrific achievement.”

Congratulations to Jovawn, Jadyn and all of the participants! We are very proud of your accomplishments.
