8th Grade Sets Sail on the Schooner Mary Day

The 8th Grade class, inspired by the positive experience of Alan Reynolds’ 8th Grade trip (Senior Class of 2019), spent their class trip on the Schooner Mary Day, of Camden, Maine. This amazing sail on the waters of Penobscot Bay was a great learning experience of wind, water, work and wildlife.

The students worked with the crew to haul sails, set anchor, learn navigation, steer the helm and help the galley staff to prepare delicious meals. The students saw Osprey, Bald Eagles, Porpoises, Seals, Eels, Jellyfish and more on and off the wildlife preserves of the bay.

The historical experience of sailing the open seas, as humanity has done for several hundred years, was a grand adventure, one that was a celebration of the life of the Class of 2023. The class thanks everyone who made our class trip possible!
