Gordon Purdie

Summer Program Co-Director

Gordon Purdie is the head coach of the men’s lacrosse team and assistant athletic director at Adelphi University. During the summer months, he is the Co-Director (with his wife Carol) of Waldorf’s Summer Program. He is also the owner and founder of Checkmate Lacrosse. Gordon first came to North America from his native Australia in 1986 to play in the World Lacrosse Games. The planned one-month stay became more extended when he was recruited by Adelphi University to play lacrosse for the Panthers. After earning his bacehlor’s degree in physical education, Gordon joined the Long Island Saints, a professional lacrosse team of the Major Indoor Lacrosse League (MILL). In 1993, Gordon arrived at Waldorf to head the school’s athletic department – a position he held for 15 years. During the school year, he can often be found on the sidelines supporting Waldorf’s athletic teams.
