Holiday Stockings for Our Troops

On December 9th, the High School Community Service Club, led by High School Science teacher Carolyn Ver Pault, collected, assembled, and sent 136 holiday cards and filled stockings to deployed troops through the organization, AdoptaPlatoon. Founded in 1998, the volunteer based nonprofit serves America’s troops from all branches of the military and their families by “ensuring that they are not forgotten by a grateful Nation.” Read more about AdoptaPlatoon at adoptaplatoon.org.

Students and parents worked together to fill the stockings with a variety of goods including; candy, black socks, hot chocolate and cider packs, puzzles and games, and travel-sized toiletries. Additional toiletries, games, candy, socks and New Year decorations were also sent resulting in more than 10 boxes (weighing over 300 pounds!) of gifts. It was a wonderful day of collaboration in the true spirit of the holiday season in an effort to improve the quality of life for these most deserving military personnel.

In addition to the students and parents who donated goods and gave their time and effort, the Community Service Club also sends a special thank you to the Waldorf Snack Stand for paying for the postage to mail the boxes.
