Waldorf Watch: Middle Schooler Runs Own Design Business

Waldorf seventh-grader, Ava Collier has always had a passion for art and drawing and she uses that passion to moonlight as an entrepreneur! Her e-commerce business, EMO by Ava features useful items adorned with Ava’s original illustrations.  Her website is run by Ava and her mother, Christine Ruiz, and features beautifully decorated clothing, accessories, and household decor for purchase.

According to her mother, Ava began drawing in the 4th grade, and it very quickly became a creative outlet, allowing her to express her personality and emotions in a way that was not only fun but also useful. After starting at out School in the 6th Grade and having many of her friends express interest in her designs, Ava and her mother launched their website in 2018 to allow people to purchase her creations.

As expressed on the homepage of her site,  “EMO by Ava isn’t just for me, it’s for any and all teens who want to express their inner story. For teens who embrace their art, their quirks, their intelligence and their EMO(tions).”

In addition to drawing, Ava loves almost any creative activity that she can pour herself into, such as the Literary Magazine Club led by her teacher Victoria Dehan. Keep up the great work Ava!
