Students, parents, coaches, and friends gathered on Wednesday night, June 5th, for the Waldorf School’s 28th Annual Sports Night Dinner in celebration of the hard work and achievements of the School’s student-athletes. Sponsored by the Parent Association, the annual event is an opportunity to recognize 7th through 12th-grade athletes who participated in soccer, basketball, softball, baseball, golf, and cross-country during the 2018-2019 school-year.
Athletics Director Mr. Shane Flanagan served as the evening’s emcee.
“The ceremony is part of a wonderful evening where the Waldorf community celebrates the athletic achievements of our teams by honoring and recognizing student’s unique contributions to the program,” said Mr. Flanagan.
A highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Gabriel Kane Spirit of Athletics Award to Senior Ali Fraim. Named in honor of Waldorf alumnus Gabriel Kane ’99, the award is given annually to a student-athlete who has demonstrated integrity, commitment, and dedication to the Waldorf athletic program. As a student, Gabriel was an active member of the School community, playing on the Varsity Soccer, Basketball, and Lacrosse teams, as well as singing with the Waldorf Singers and Madrigals. He had just graduated from Muhlenberg College at the time of his death. This special award was presented by his brother, Jesse Kane ’05.
The Waldorf School of Garden City’s 28th Annual Sports Night Ceremony was organized by the collaborative efforts of the PTA Co-Chairs, students, faculty, and staff. Their kindness and hard work truly made the event an evening to remember. Thank you to Go Greek restaurant supplying dinner, and to all the students and family members who stayed after to clean up. Lastly, farewell and best of luck to the graduating student-athletes whose leadership as positive role-models had a profound effect on both the athletic department and the younger student-athletes. We thank you for your service and wish you nothing but the best in your futures.
