Varsity Girls Basketball vs. Lawrence Woodmere Academy

Waldorf’s Varsity Girls Basketball Team extended their overall record to 07-02 with a 40-14 win over Lawrence Woodmere Academy (LWA). Using their overall speed and much improved rebounding at both ends of the floor, Waldorf never allowed LWA to get into any rhythm.

Senior co-captain Isabella Fraim led all scorers with 12 points followed by her classmate and fellow co-captain Carolyn Smalls, who had 6 points. “These two players – with their experience and all out desire to lead by example – have been the key to our success,” said Coach LeSueur.

Players from the junior class were well represented as swing guards: Sofia Trikas, Marianna Paone and Jaclyn Proctor. “The trio are playing well and taking care of the ball,” remarked LeSueur. “Their passing game and timing have enabled the entire team to get better looks on offense.” Junior center Ajanai Miller Randolph has improved her physical impact on both ends of the court and strong rebounding off the glass. Proctor had 4 points, Miller Randolph had 4 points, Trikas had 4 points and Paone had 2 points.

Sophomore Mikayla Ver Pault (2 points) continues to get more playing time. Rounding out the scoring were Nicole Tsai (sophomore), Skyla Davis (freshman), and Maria Golebiewski (freshman) all with two points each.

After the game, Coach LeSueur remarked, “Waldorf played one of its best quarters of play with the best percentage shooting. Our quick ball movement and decision making resulted in 22 points against only two for Lawrence Woodmere Academy.

(It should be noted that the usual Waldorf starters were asked to sit out and give more playing time to the underclassman.)
