Waldorf Boys Varsity Soccer Extends Record to 4-2-1

In their first meeting of the season, the boys varsity soccer team from the Waldorf School of Garden City traveled to Locust Valley to take on the squad from the Portledge School this past Wednesday. Waldorf dominated the first half with constant pressure from forwards Matt Wasserman and Axel Epie. Waldorf scored at the 17:45 mark when forward Marco Spitaliere, making a far-post run, was able to convert an in-swing corner kick from co-captain and midfielder Peter Escribano, who is the team leader in points for goals and assists this season.

During the second half, Waldorf relied on superb defensive play from Caleb Yuan, Sam Resnick, Sheppard Somers, and co-captain Jared Hescheles, along with 7 saves from goalkeeper Max Novick, to preserve the 1-0 win. The midfield duo of Chukwudi Anagbogu and Deepjot Singh was strong both offensively and defensively for Waldorf.

“The offensive output was not as dynamic as in past games, but the entire team pulled together defensively for their first shutout of the season,” said Boys Varsity Soccer Coach Paul LeSueur.

The victory was Waldorf’s fourth consecutive win and puts them in a strong position in the current IPPSAL standings. The game was recorded by MSG Varsity Sports and can be seen on Cablevision Channel 614 or online by clicking here.

“Waldorf is in a good position to capture a playoff spot,” said LeSueur. “But with two tough matches against Long Island Lutheran, our final seed is yet to be determined.”

The team will face the Portledge School again on Wednesday, October 12th at home on the Laszlo Jurak Athletic Field. Game time begins at 4:30 pm. Parents, students, and friends are encouraged to attend and cheer-on the team. For a complete schedule of games – and results – of Waldorf’s Boys Varsity Soccer Team, click here.
