Waldorf Celebrates Inaugural Golf Classic and Dinner Reception

Thankfully the rain held off on Monday, June 15th and 88 individuals from the Waldorf School of Garden City as well as their friends and business associates gathered for 18 holes of golf at the prestigious Garden City Country Club. That evening, an additional 230 dinner guests gathered for cocktails and dinner to honor Mr. Paul LeSueur, Waldorf’s former athletic director.

This first-of-its-kind event was led by volunteers Bill Jennings as Honorary Chair and Co-Chairs of the Alumni Parent Association Chiara Sugrue and Daryl Smalls who served as Event Chairs for the Planning Committee. Proud Waldorf Alumnus and Trustee Scott A. Williams ’85 emceed the evening’s dinner reception.

“The event was a success in every way,” said Marjorie P. Jean-Paul, Waldorf’s Director of Development. “Members of the community came out to celebrate our School, honor Paul LeSueur, and raise financial support for our Scholarship and Endowment Fund. The overwhelming response for the event generated close to $180,000.

During the cocktail hours, guests were dazzled with a performance by the High School Jazz Band along with guest performances by alumni Max Cheney ’13, Mark Gonzalez ’15, Oren Maximov ’13, Orin Pearce ’13, Franklin Rankin ’13, and Sam Resnick ’14.

One special highlight of the evening was the announcement that Paul’s four children and their families had established a fully endowed scholarship to honor their father’s service and dedication to the School.

“The Paul LeSueur Scholarship will provide partial support for a middle or high school student with demonstrated financial need, who exemplifies the ideals of sportsmanship – including fairness, integrity, honesty, unselfishness, kindness, and compassion – both on and off the athletic field. We thank the LeSueur Family for their generosity!” said Ms. Jean-Paul.

“I also want to gratefully acknowledge our sponsors who underwrote this special event as well as our planning committee members for all their time, talents and financial support,” said Ms. Jean-Paul. “We as a community are fortunate to have the dedication and commitment of so many in insuring the future of our school and impacting our students’ education.”

Congratulations to all who helped organize and/or participated in this year’s Golf Classic and Dinner Reception!

And mark your calendars! Waldorf’s Gala at the Garden City Hotel will take place on Friday, May 13th, 2016!
