Waldorf makes National Headlines

On Wednesday, November 30th, on NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams, education correspondent Rehema Ellis reported on the Waldorf School of the Peninsula – located in the Silicon Valley of California. The story, “The Waldorf Way: Silicon Valley school eschews technology”, reports that despite being in the heart of thousands of high tech companies such as Apple, Facebook, and Google – to name a few, Waldorf students are not caught up in the gadget frenzy that has consumed so many other school children nationwide. The story continues the ongoing conversation that began with this front-page story in The New York Times. The piece goes on to report how computers are not used in Waldorf’s early grades and only used appropriately in the upper grades. Integral to Waldorf education is a developmentally appropriate approach to students’ engagement with technology and electronic media.

We at the Waldorf School of Garden City are thrilled that Waldorf education is receiving this kind of national media attention, and we are proud to be at the forefront of this increasingly prominent educational movement, with all of you – our parents, alumni, supporters, and friends!

Update 12/06/2011:

On Monday, December 5th, on CBS’s “The Early Show,” Priya David Clemens also reported on the Waldorf School of the Peninsula. Click this link (or the following image) to watch the story.
