Roland Rothenbucher  •  High School Chair

Roland earned his Bachelor’s from Hamilton College and his Master’s from Middlebury College. He holds a Waldorf High School Teaching Certification from Rudolf Steiner College in Fair Oaks, California and has New York State’s Permanent Teaching Certification. Roland joined the Waldorf School Faculty in 1979. He has been Chair of the High School since 1996.

Roland’s interests include studies in the Florentine Renaissance, Sanskrit, and practical philosophy. He loves hiking, biking, and tending his raspberry patch.


Carol Proctor  •  Admissions Team

Originally from South Africa, Carol first became acquainted with Waldorf Education when her youngest child attended a Waldorf program in Johannesburg. Carol holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a Post Graduate Diploma in Education from the University of the Witwatersrand as well as a Bachelor and Master of Law Degree from the University of South Africa.

Before joining the administrative team at the Waldorf School, Carol taught high school in South Africa and has worked in diplomatic, corporate and legal environments in New York. Introducing families to the world of Waldorf Education, Carol believes, is a most gratifying opportunity!


Ann Mulvehill  •  Admissions Team

Ann received her Undergraduate Degree in Marketing from LeMoyne College in Syracuse, NY and her Master’s Degree in Education from Hofstra University.  She is also a graduate of the Winkler Center’s Foundation Studies program.

Ann found her way to the Waldorf School when her eldest child enrolled in 2008, and immediately got involved as a volunteer. She began working in the Development Office in 2015. In 2017, Ann took on her current role as the Enrollment Director for Grades 4-12. Having a veritable sweet tooth, Ann can usually be found with a jar full of candy in her office.


Janet Kane  •  Lower School Chair

At sixteen, Janet pursued a bachelor’s degree in education and psychology at Queens College. She graduated with numerous honors including; the Dean’s list, membership in the National Education Honors Society, Summa Cum Laude, and Phi Beta Kappa. Shortly thereafter she completed her teacher training and her master’s degree in Waldorf education at the Waldorf Institute of Adelphi University.

Prior to joining the Waldorf School of Garden City, Janet taught preschool and grades 1-3 at the Rudolf Steiner School in Manhattan. For over 20 years Janet was the Early Childhood Chair and also served as the Faculty Co-Chair and College Chair at the Waldorf School of Garden City. Through the years she also helped to develop and expand our Early Childhood programs. Janet and her husband Jeffrey Kane, PhD are parents of three alumni, Gabriel ‘99 Emily ‘01 and Jesse ‘05. We are thrilled to welcome her back as the Lower School Chair.


Shane Flanagan  •  Athletic Director

Shane Flanagan graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor’s degree from Adelphi University and also earned a Master’s Degree from Long Island University – C.W. Post Campus.

A certified New York State physical education teacher, Shane brings his wealth of knowledge and passion to the Waldorf’s athletics program. He understands the importance of infusing character development and team building skills into a competitive program.
