Enthusiasm Abounds during Fall Fair Weekend and Waldorf Symposium

We kicked off an exciting Alumni and Fall Fair Weekend on Friday, October 15th when ten alumni from across the country joined us virtually for our annual Waldorf Symposium. They shared their unique journeys after leaving The Waldorf School of Garden City and how the School helped shape their career paths. Josh Blumenthal ’99, Amir Diop ’17, Danielle Gill ’05, Dorian Glover ’84, Rachael Holder ’01, Karnika Kisnadwala ’12, Ken Marissael ’71, Hon. Linda K. Mejias-Glover ’97, Sim Singh ’07, and Elana Temple ’07 answered a number of questions about how their experiences at The WSGC differentiated them from their peers in college and in their careers, and how they define success. Resilience, staying curious, and the ability to pivot to makes things work in any situation were some repeated themes.

“My Waldorf education instilled in me, grit, the tools to learn, and collegiality–a particularly important skill to take with you into the world.” Hon. Linda K. Mejias-Glover ’97

“You are your biggest support, enemy, ally. Everyone around you is fighting their own battles, setting their own pace [and] goals, so you have to be your own sounding board.” Elana Temple ’07

“I would look into the world in which the sun is shining, and see the light that shines in all of us when others could not.” Dorian Glover ’84, quoting part of the high school morning verse.

“It is humbling to see how each panelist has unlocked the potential within themselves.” Roland Rothenbucher, High School Chair

The next morning brought perfect fall weather for our annual Fall Fair, and Alumni Soccer games. The entire event was held outside on our expansive campus. The grounds came alive, buzzing with activity and the happy faces of our current families and alumni, who took pleasure in food, games, and each other’s company under the golden autumn sunshine. Hosted by the PTA, it was a very successful event and thoroughly enjoyed by all.

In appreciation came this heartfelt message from the Parent-Teacher Association: It is with hearts filled with gratitude that we wish to thank all in our WSGC community who joined us for a fabulous Fall Fair event this past Saturday. From the youngest children watching the puppet show to the alumni playing on the soccer field, it was such a joy to see everyone enjoying themselves on our beautiful campus.

This magnificent day was supported by the loving and hardworking efforts of our Fall Fair Committee, Parent Reps, and so many employees and parent volunteers who came together to create community fun and spirit.

Thanks for a very special day!
